SUMMARY:Elevating Youth Leadership to Combat Homelessness
DESCRIPTION:This Youth HOPE Month\, we invite you to join Sanctuary of Hope on Instagram for an important discussion on how leadership development serves as a protective factor in preventing and ending youth homelessness. \nLeadership isn’t just about titles; it’s about agency\, empowerment\, and creating pathways for youth to thrive. At Sanctuary of Hope\, we believe that by equipping young people with leadership skills\, we can help them explore their potential\, build resilience\, and ultimately change the narrative around homelessness. \nJoin our Executive Director\, Janet Denise Kelly and Young Adult Action Board\, Nathaniel Patterson to shed light on the transformative programs SOH offers. These initiatives not only provide essential resources but also cultivate the leadership abilities of our youth\, allowing them to take charge of their lives and communities. \nFollow Sanctuary of Hope on Instagram to participate in this essential conversation. Let’s work together to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to lead and flourish. Your engagement can make a difference in the lives of those facing homelessness.

SUMMARY:Youth HOPE Month
DESCRIPTION:Youth HOPE Month is here!  It is a re-branding from National Runaway Prevention and Homeless Youth Awareness Month to Youth Homelessness Outreach Prevention and Education Month – Youth HOPE Month. \nYouth HOPE Month shines light on issues facing young people who are considering leaving home or have run away and are experiencing homelessness.  In the United States\, 4.2 million youth experience homelessness; and in Los Angeles County\, on any given night\, 3\,000 youth experience street homelessness. \nAlthough the statistics may be discouraging\, we have a lot to be hopeful about because we are at the center of hope. More than 1\,200 young people come through SOH’s doors annually for crisis resolution and leave with mentorship\, support systems\, and social capital. \nWe have a big ASK.  The ask is that you get involved and participate in Youth HOPE Month by following SOH’s social media and setting up alerts and attending our in-person events.

SUMMARY:Candlelight Interfaith Prayer and Youth Voice Reflections
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nSanctuary of Hope Culminates Runaway & Homeless Youth Awareness Month with a Community Candlelight Event to Shed Light on the Issues \nSanctuary of Hope (SOH)\, a local nonprofit youth development and human service organization for Transitional Age Youth\, will culminate Runaway Prevention and Homeless Youth Awareness Month on Tuesday\, November 29th at 6pm with a Candlelight Interfaith Prayer and Youth Voice Reflections on the outside steps of Sanctuary of Hope at 4003 W. Adams Blvd.\, Los Angeles\, CA 90018. \nThe facts around youth homelessness are staggering. An estimated 4.2 million youth and young adults experience homelessness\, of which 700\,000 are unaccompanied minors\, meaning they are not part of a family or accompanied by a parent or guardian. On any given night\, approximately 41\,000 unaccompanied youth ages 13-25 experience homelessness. Runaway and homeless youth are vulnerable to multiple threats\, including not having their basic food and shelter needs met\, untreated mental health disorders\, substance use\, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV infection\, sexual exploitation\, physical victimization and suicide. A housing crisis puts young people at huge risk of more violence and trauma\, and right now young people\, and their children\, need support more than ever. \n  \n“Prevention is the pathway to preventing youth homelessness\, or what we call ‘functional zero’\, and it is our belief that youth homelessness should be rare\, non-reoccurring and brief\,” stated Janet Kelly\, Executive Director of SOH. “We are inviting all of our stakeholders to be in community with us to ensure that our young people receive all of the necessary resources and supports to prevent them for entering into a homeless crisis.” \n  \nTuesday night’s event will feature reflections from youth who have experienced homelessness\, and their resiliency to persevere\, along with local interfaith leaders and others who will offer prayers around the issues facing homeless and runaway youth. Among the faith leaders confirmed to participate are: Pastor Cue-Jn Marie\, Skidrow Church Without Walls; Pastor Walter Contreras\, CLUE-LA Black & Brown Alliance; Rabbi Neil Comess-Daniels\, Rabbi Emeritus\, Beth Shir Shalom; Sister Atra Flemons\, ISLA Muslim Community\, and the Zen Center L.A.\, along with several others. \n  \nInformation and resources will be available. The community is invited to attend. Coffee and refreshments will be served. \n  \n
