Last month, Jack and Jill Foundation of America, Incorporated Inglewood Chapter(JJF) designed and furnished a reading corner for families in our programs. This new reading corner expands on SOH’s mission to strengthen family relationships, improve early childhood education, and reduce child welfare involvement and Black infant mortality.
With over 100 diverse books to choose from and a cozy area for digital learning with an installed Smart TV, pregnant and parenting youth have a welcoming space to enhance their literacy skills and focus on family. “The Reading Corner will promote healthy bonding – attachment, and support language and child development in an intimate, safe, judgment free space for our families and youth in all of our programs,” said Tiana Brown, SOH Area Director. “I hope that our families feel the warmth and love that Inglewood Chapter Jack and Jill Foundation’s Chair, Jennifer Thomas poured in as well as volunteers and sponsors who brought the Reading Corner to life.”
SOH looks forward to all of our youth visiting the Jack and Jill Reading Corner. We know they won’t be disappointed. We thank Jack and Jill for filling our pantry too with goods for our families.
SOH invites our partners and public to learn more about our Young Parent Resiliency (YPR) program that provides support groups, empowerment activities, and resources for pregnant and young parent families.
