Last week, our Executive Director Janet Kelly, survivor life coach Lakisha Mumford, and young leader Jadyn joined First Partner Jennifer Newsom, Mayor Karen Bass, and the Jenesse leadership and former participants at Jenesse Center for a conversation on housing insecurity and instability. Jadyn shared her childhood and survivor experiences that contributed to episodic bouts of being without a home.  Certain life circumstances are drivers of housing insecurity such as substance use by a parent, cost of living, trafficking, and domestic violence. Jadyn spoke to the important of having culturally relevant and local substance use programs for members of the community to achieve sobriety and heal. She also informed on the importance of having programs like SOH to connect trafficking and domestic violence survivors to resources for a hand up and critical support system to thrive. Jadyn now is in her own apartment, writing and reciting poetry, and empowering other young people to lead.
