Sanctuary of Hope envisions a future where equity abounds for youth and young adults locally, nationally and internationally to benefit and thrive from a just and fair society. Our policy and advocacy activities are focused on civic engagement, political education, coalition-building, activism and community organizing while being and rooted in intersectionality and equity to dismantle systemic and institutional racism in our political, economic, and social systems.
Participants in the Policy and Advocacy Institute receive training and participate in a wide variety of activities that include:
- Character and leadership development
- Policy and legislation analysis
- Advocacy and community organizing skills
- Organizing and mobilizing campaigns
Annually the Policy and Advocacy Institute hosts two retreats a year that brings together 50+ young adults for a 3-day intensive convening with educators, advocates, policymakers, and activists from California and across the nation. Through this institute we mobilize, educate, activate and organize 100+ young adults in actions to increase youth and young adult voices for systemic change through legislative and delegation visits, media and awareness campaigns, storytelling, voter education and registration, and local and national marches.
