Last month, during Youth Hope Month, Sanctuary of Hope’s Executive Director, Janet Denise Kelly, appeared on Good Day LA to discuss the growing issue of runaway youth and young people at risk of leaving home. She highlighted the rising trend of youth fleeing due to household stress and the urgent need for early intervention to keep families together.
Sanctuary of Hope offers critical resources for young people who have run away, including family reunification support and mediation services to address conflicts within households. Kelly, joined by Melvin Roberts, Koco MacAboy, and Susan Hirasuna, emphasized the importance of maintaining family unity and diverting youth away from the overwhelmed homeless system, which lacks the capacity to properly address their needs.
