This week has been centered on civic engagement and advocacy by Sanctuary of Hope’s youth and young adults to urge Governor Brown to declare a State of Emergency on Homelessness. We gathered 40 signatures for petitions to Governor Brown with hopes he will hear the beckoning call to respond to homelessness quickly. The petitions will be delivered to Los Angeles County’s Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas’ team as part of the 10,000 voices who want to see a solution to the problem.
California has the largest homeless population in the nation, representing 21% of the aggregated total. In Los Angeles County, 47,000 people are homeless on the streets any given night.
