Join Sanctuary of Hope for the Los Angeles premiere of The Dash That Made the Difference, a youth-led documentary created by our Young Action Leaders. This powerful film shines a long-overdue spotlight on Lowndes County, an essential yet often overlooked part of the Selma to Montgomery story. Through the voices of youth, the documentary explores intergenerational history, activism, and the ongoing fight for justice.

This special screening is part of Youth Hope Month, where we elevate youth voices and Ignite Hope across our community.

We invite you to share a meal, experience the film, and engage in meaningful dialogue with our youth and community partners.

About the Documentary

The Dash That Made the Difference has already made an impact at its national and community premieres:

  • International Counseling and Treating People of Color Conference: The youth debuted their film to an audience of practitioners, educators, and advocates, receiving praise for lifting up an essential but under-told civil rights narrative.

  • Lowndes County Friends of the Civil Rights Movement: They hosted a private screening in Alabama, grounding the film in the very community whose legacy they are honoring.

The documentary gives voice to the everyday activists, elders, families, and freedom fighters of Lowndes County—capturing the “dash” that connects past to present and inspiring the next generation to carry the work forward.
