Rustin Bayard Fellowship Program

The Rustin Bayard Fellowship at Sanctuary of Hope’s Hope Place in Antelope Valley is an eight-week leadership development program designed to empower emerging community leaders with the tools and insights necessary to drive meaningful change. Rooted in the legacy of civil rights leader Bayard Rustin, this fellowship emphasizes policy, advocacy, and community empowerment.

Program Overview

Fellows participate in an engaging curriculum that covers:

  • Community Empowerment & Organizing: Cultivating grassroots mobilization and collective action.
  • Public Speaking & Leadership: Building confidence and honing advocacy skills.
  • Research & Policy Analysis: Evaluating local and state policies that affect youth and marginalized communities.
  • Legislative Advocacy: Learning how to navigate government systems to influence policy decisions.

The program culminates in a capstone project selected by the cohort, where participants apply their knowledge and research to develop actionable recommendations. They present their findings and call to action to the community, engaging stakeholders in a meaningful dialogue to spur local change.
