As part of Youth HOPE Month, Sanctuary of Hope is hosting a special gathering that reflects the heart of our mission and the spiritual diversity of Los Angeles. We invite our community to join us for a Multi-Faith Candlelight Vigil in honor of young people who are experiencing homelessness, housing instability, family crisis, or who have run away from home seeking safety and peace.

On this evening, we will stand together in solidarity with youth, lifting up prayers, blessings, and intentions from many faith traditions. Our goal is simple but profound: to remind young people that they are seen, valued, and not alone.

Why a Multi-Faith Vigil for Youth?

Los Angeles is a city of many cultures, beliefs, and practices. The young people we serve at Sanctuary of Hope come from Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, African diasporic, Indigenous, and many other traditions.

Our Multi-Faith Candlelight Vigil is a space where all of these traditions are honored. Together we affirm that every young person deserves:

  • Safety and stability
  • Love and belonging
  • A future filled with hope

This vigil is both a spiritual and community response to the realities of youth homelessness and crisis in our region.

Sacred Words of Hope and Courage

During the vigil, we will share short readings and reflections from several traditions, including:

  • Christian tradition – Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you a future and a hope.”
  • Jewish tradition (Torah) – Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous; do not fear… for the Lord your God goes with you.”
  • Muslim tradition – Qur’an 5:32
“Whoever saves one life, it is as if they have saved all of humanity.”
  • Buddhist tradition
“May all beings be free from suffering. May all beings know peace.”
  • Orisa/Ifá tradition
“Where there is darkness, let us bring light. Where there is despair, let us call forth hope.”

Each reading offers a different doorway into the same truth: every young life is sacred.

Honoring Young Lives Lost

As part of the vigil, we will hold a tender moment of remembrance by gently reading the names of young lives lost.

We honor their memory, their light, and the call they leave with us to care deeper, advocate stronger, and continue building systems of support and love for youth today.
