On December 6, Sanctuary Hope’s Executive Director, Janet Kelly and youth from SOH programs joined advocates and activist across LA County to witness a historic unanimous vote by the Los Angeles County Supervisors to place a quarter-cent sales tax proposal on the March 2017 ballot to fund homeless programs.
More than 1,500 advocates, activists, organizations, and residents showed up to support the sales tax measure. The measure is expected to raise about $355 million a year over its 10-year lifespan and if passed by voters in March, will complement L.A. City’s Prop HHH $1.2 billion general obligation bond measure.
Our Executive Director, Janet Kelly, spoke at the meeting and said, “This proposed measure is a catalyst and potential of hope for all our citizens experiencing homelessness in LA County. ” Sanctuary of Hope sees this proposed sales tax ballot measure as a key resource to maintain and expand services to youth experiencing homelessness and for prevention.
